I've been contemplating whether to get my naval, eyebrow, and tongue pierced or not. The thing is, I have extremely sensitive skin. Although I have my earlobes pierced 5 times without any trouble, I have not been able to get a successful cartilege piercing because it was so infected each time. I am also allergic to nickel.
Do these things matter for other body piercings? I would hate to spend so much money and end up removing it like my other ear piercings.
Thanks in advance!
Sensitive Skin - Body Piercings?
Stick with titanium. It's pretty much the least allergenic metal you can use. I have extrememly sensitive skin as well and have had multiple allergic reactions in my earlobe piercings. But...when I had my cartilage and navel done I used titanium in each from the start, no problems whatsoever.
My navel also healed a lot better once I switched from a captive bead ring to a banana barbell because it didn't stretch my skin unnaturally like it did around the tight curve of the ring.
Reply:tongue and eyebrow are a little risky and also unattractive.
Reply:Try your navel first its the least likely to get infected, then go eyebrow, then finanlly if you dont have problems try your tongue.
also never you hydrogen peroxide on your piercings. always use warm sea salt water its the best thing for your peircings
Reply:A good body piercer can get jewellery for you with much lower nickel grade. You could also use PTFE which can be autoclaved.
If you are only having trouble with cartilage piercings you may not be caring for them well enough.
Cartilage is a difficult area to pierce and prone to infection. It doesn't get the blood flow that normal flesh does.
Reply:ive also got really sensitive skin... i have 8 piercings in my ears and my nose and tongue... both with no problems.
im also allergic to nickel and had no problems with my belly piercing until i put in a cheap bar... and my body rejected it.
if you don't mind looking after them properly and use good quality jewellry there shouldn't be a problem :P
good luck for whatever you decide to do!
Reply:Keep everything clean. Most people are OK with gold...not gold plated.
