Help with sensitive/spotty skin?

Even though I'm 30 and have never had particularly bad acne, I do have very sensitive skin and still get frequent spots. Any change in temperature makes my skin dry and red (at the same time as I get spost!). I currently wash using water only, and then use savlon (!) as a moisturiser. What else should I do to stop getting spots?

Help with sensitive/spotty skin?
go see a homeopath who specializes in skin treatment

he can heal you without scars
Reply:Savlon maybe to harsh for your skin if it is already sensitive. Try something like E45 cream. Go and see a skin specialist as they can recomend other creams which are not available in the high street.
Reply:have you been the doctors ? my daughter got lotion off ours and it cleared her skin up but she hasnt got sensitive skin. i always tell her to drink lots of water and plenty of fruit and veg too.
Reply:use tea tree soap.
Reply:Hi Sam,

first you need to soften the water you are using. Water from the taps in most of the UK is very alkaline, due to limescale. Get some porridge oats in a leg of an old pair of tights and place them under the hot tap. The oats will soften the water and reduce the alkalinity.

Next you need a good natural skin cleasnser and one I recommend is Palmarosa face wash from nealsyardremedies.com

When your skin is red and dry, apply pure aloe vera gel to the affected areas 2-3 times daily.

Savlon is made from soap and is very alkaline.

You may want to start drinking nettle tea. You can find it in shops like Holland and Barrett. It tastes a bit "grassy" but it can be sweetened with a tsp of honey. The nettle tea will help to flush out the impurities in your body causing the spots.

Any problems just email me.

Reply:try E45
Reply:Instead of just washing your face with water, buy a gentle facial wash for sensitive skin like Simple to use once or twice a day, depending on how greasy your skin gets. Its perfume and alcohol free so won't harm your already sensitive skin. Get a wash that doesn't have exfoliating beads in because these scrape dirt off of your skin so will make it more sore. I would use a more gentle cream for your face, savlon may make it worse and it is quite greasy so won't help your spots. Go to a pharmacist or doctor and see what they can do for you.

Good luck
Reply:Savlon is very drying for skin (I use it to heal up new tattoos). It will be ok for use directly on your spots but don't use it as a moisturiser. To have good skin it all starts from within so make sure you drink at least 2 litres of water per day, tea, coffee and fizzy drinks do not count towards this but herbal teas and fresh juices do. Up your intake of fresh fruit and veg - smoothies are great for boosting your intake. It will take about 4-6 weeks to notice a difference but believe me you will notice.

Get into a good cleansing and moisturising routine - a daily non perfumed moisturiser first thing in the morning (ask in your local chemist what would be suitable for your skin type), a gentle facial scrub to get rid of dead skin cells - personally I find facial wipes a godsend as they are not too drying (I too have sensitive skin), and use a night cream before you go to bed.

Most of it is trial and error as to what cream suits you, but stay away from the savlon.
Reply:my skin is similar to yours and the things that have made a huge difference are, olay sensitive non-comedogenic moisturiser, simple cleanser or facial wipes, not just water or dirt will clog in your pores and freederm gel which really brings out any bacteria that is under the skin. It also helps to bring out the white head from existing spots super quick, which is great because they can be very painful. Drinking as much water as you can and eating as healthy as possible definitely makes a big difference too. only use savlon on individual spots occasionally when they are healing as it is too drying. And most importantly of all don't worry, as stress too can have an effect, so chill out, laugh loads and watch them magically fade away!
